Lawyer on weekdays, street food hunter on weekends, and backpacker at heart.
I travel carry-on only, book the cheapest stays, and love street food. I will take a cheaper overnight bus over a shorter, faster train ride to save on a night’s accommodation.
But I’m not ultra-frugal. You won’t catch me roughing it out in a tent on a tropical island battling mosquitoes in 30 °C heat in Southeast Asia.
I don’t plan for every expense, although I do set a max budget and then track my spending. I aim for value-for-money. This can look different for everyone, of course; what’s valuable to you may not be valuable to me. Legroom, meals, and check-in luggage on a flight? I don’t need it. A private shower? Don’t need it either; I’m fine with shared showers. Seaview room on a tropical island, with AC? Yes, 100%.
Of course, I dream of the day when I start growing money on trees and can have it all, but alas…the fate of being a salarywoman with a weak currency befell me.
This blog is a collection of my experiences, told through the lens of a Malaysian traveller trying to make every ringgit count.
